Otoplasty: HELP FOR A DISORDERING COMPLEX.

1. Where does the malformation come from?

Protruding ears are characterized by three frequently associated malformations:

A defect of plication of the cartilage (the anthelix) causing an absence of relief, an hypertrophy of the cartilage (the conch) which accentuates the projection of the ear, a retroauricular angle too important.

The purpose of this operation is to correct these anomalies.

2. How old do you have to be for this procedure?

Adults can be operated at any age, children can be operated from 7 years old. It is necessary to wait until the growth of the ear is correct, moreover, local anesthesia is more easily tolerated after 7 years. However, it is best to avoid the period of puberty to promote good healing.

The request for surgery must be a personal process regardless of age. Children can express their desire for intervention perfectly given the teasing they are subjected to. The surgeon will make sure that this is not a purely parental request.

3. How is the consultation going?

During the consultation, our surgeon takes into account the ear malformations as well as your motivation to perform this operation. Your medical file will then be put in place, in addition it must be supplemented by photos which will help during the procedure.

4. How to prepare for the intervention?

The day before the operation, the hair must be washed and tied for the girls.

The patient must not have taken aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs 10 days before the operation.

Depending on the type of anesthesia, a fasting may be required.

5. What is the mode of anesthesia?

Several anesthesias are possible for protruding ears surgery. These are pure local anesthesia, anesthesia with neurolept-analgesia or general anesthesia.

The mode of anesthesia will be assessed by our surgeon depending on the age and tolerance of the patient.

6. What is the technique for performing otoplasty?

Our surgeon will explain the operation process to you during an appointment. In addition, the operation is on an outpatient basis, the discharge will be carried out the same evening or the next morning.

7. What are the postoperative consequences?

A moderate pain may be present, it is calmed by analgesics. After surgery, bruises (bruises) are present on the ear for several days as well as edema (swollen ear).

The swollen appearance of the ear when the dressing is removed quickly disappears. Otoplasty is not a painful operation provided you take enough analgesics (Paracetamol for example).

8. Quels sont les soins post-opératoires ?

Le pansement en forme de casque est enlevé le lendemain pour les adultes, aux environs du 3è jour pour les enfants.

Une désinfection rétro-auriculaire est alors réalisée de manière quotidienne par le patient.

Huit jours après l'ablation du pansement, le fil de chirurgie esthétique rétro-auriculaire est retiré.

9. Puis-je avoir des complications avec l’otoplastie ?

Plusieurs complications peuvent survenir de manière exceptionnelle, il peut s'agir d'un hématome qui nécessitera une nouvelle hémostase, une infection (chondrite) qui nécessitera une nouvelle intervention chirurgicale ou simplement un traitement par antibiotique.

La cicatrice rétro-auriculaire est habituellement très fine, mais elle peut grossir de manière très importante lorsqu'elle évolue sur un mode chéloïdien. Comme pour toute chirurgie ou anesthésie, il peut exister d'autres complications exceptionnelles ou inattendues. Notre chirurgien vous indiquera celle-ci lors de vos entretiens.

10. Quand puis-je voir le résultat ?

Le résultat sera appréciable entre un à trois mois. À ce stade, les résultats sont en principes définitifs. Une légère asymétrie peut persister après l'intervention en fonction de l'anatomie de départ et de la résistance du cartilage.

Une retouche est rarement nécessaire.

11. Combien de temps dure l’intervention ?

Une chirurgie des oreilles décollées dure en moyenne d'une demi-heure à une heure.
