Nymphoplasty

Nymphoplasty: A correction of the labia minora

Lymphoplasty is becoming an increasingly frequent operation in women. It aims to reduce the labia minora.

Lymphoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting an enlarged labia minora , that is to say an excessive size of the labia minora, in particular compared to that of the labia majora, from which they will protrude. This hypertrophy is generally constitutional and is not pathological. It is simply a physical trait, such as large ears or small breasts, that appears during puberty. Childbirth or menopause can make things worse, but this is rare . Lymphoplasty also corrects an asymmetry between the labia minora , a recurring reason for consultation.

1. An operation for medical purposes rather than aesthetic

With 20% more interventions per year for 5 years, the nymphoplasty is a surgery in constant increase. Contrary to popular belief, however, the influence of porn culture is not at the origin of this progression. We have found that the patients having recourse to the nymphoplasty do not express an aesthetic desire. They want to correct this problem because of the discomfort and pain caused by enlarged labia minora. These women cannot practice certain sports such as horse riding for example.

Wearing slim jeans, lace underwear or tight swimsuits becomes a real ordeal for these women. In addition, her sex life may turn out to be slowing down because of this problem, in fact the labia minora can be imposed during penetration. This will release a complex, therefore a psychological suffering.

With the agreement of our surgeon following an appointment, the nymphoplasty can be covered by health insurance.

2. Different possible techniques for Nymphoplasty:

The operation, performed as an outpatient surgery, takes place under general anesthesia or vigil (local anesthesia with tranquilizers, for patients fearing general anesthesia), and lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour. The objective of the intervention is to obtain a harmonious vulva, with a size of the labia minora in relation to that of the labia majora and the volume of the vulva. This sometimes requires reducing the anterior extensions of the labia minora at the level of the clitoral hood as well, being careful not to remove too much.

Our surgeon will choose the technique to use according to your case. This will be determined during an appointment and the presentation of your problem.

3. Operative suites:

The postoperative period is generally not very painful and simple analgesics are sufficient to calm the pain. Small bleeding persists for 2-3 days and the area may be swollen for a few days causing discomfort, especially when sitting .. But it is an area that heals well, to condition of observing good hygiene with an intimate toilet after each visit to the toilet . The resorbable threads disappear within 1 to 2 weeks. For a month, the use of tampons and intercourse are prohibited.

Our surgeon will take great care of your postoperative case in order to guarantee you an optimal result.

The final result is obtained after 3 months , until the edema has completely disappeared. Patients are generally very satisfied with it. A study initiated by CEROG (Committee for Research Ethics in Obstetrics and Gynecology), conducted over 2 years and bringing together various plastic surgeons from Paris, Marseille and Montpellier, aims to assess the improvement of the quality of life of women after a nymphoplasty according to these two criteria: self-esteem and sexual function.
